Not all of the plane of Vacuum is bland and empty. Meddlesome gods have on occasion changed even this place of nothingness. The Oeridian power Wenta, one of the pantheon’s four patrons of the winds and seasons, has chosen the End as her centre of power. As for why a power of bounty would pick such an obscure place for a realm, well that’ll require a short history lesson…
As the youngest of the seasons, Wenta was the wife of Landron of the Inner Light (Him Who Knows)—the power who gave order to the wind and seasons, and sometime leader of the Oeridian pantheon—at least until Zilchus’ subtle coup. No longer burdened with the responsibilities of ruling, Landron settled down with his wife Wenta, the beloved goddess of the harvest, and made the most of his lesser role, structuring his part of the cosmic plan. Unfortunately, Landron’s order conflicted with the glory of Vatun, the quarrelsome of Winter—who ended up killing the Inner Light and carrying off Wenta. The kidnapped power insisted on serving dinner to her captor, and over time she cunningly increased the potency of his mead until it was just enough to put him in a deep sleep. When Telchur then rescued her, he locked Vatun away. Despite being freed, Wenta hid herself away, and her absence is said to have stopped all plants on the prime world of Oerth from ripening—until her older sister Altroa intervened, luring her out of her cave with an ridiculous erotic dance.
Wenta typically manifests as a mature, bosomy woman with bright yellow hair, wearing a crown of corn ears. Once known only as the Bountiful, she is now also known as the Mourner, and the time of dying leaves is seen also as a period of sadness. During the Spring and Summer on Oerth, Wenta wanders the fields of Arvandor, and the crops blossom and grow. When Autumn comes, and the harvests are all complete, Wenta’s outlook changes dramatically as she begind to mourn the coming of Winter once again. It’s during this time that she retreats to her realm of Heart’s Void, in the plane of Vacuum.
