Moa Lord’s Atoll

Pouākai, the enormous eagle of the atoll

Realm of the Moa Lord

Location: Pangaea / Moa Lord’s Atoll

The realm of the Moa Lord exists as a massive volcanic atoll rising from Pangaea’s primeval seas, its reefs and cliff forests the perfect environment for the remaining flocks of moa who Te Kura has gathered around herself. The island’s most distinctive feature is the Thunder Track—a network of smooth mud paths radiating from every possible landing site, designed to provide maximum running advantage against pursuing humans. The Moa Lord regularly stages faux invasions, stress testing escape routes and teaching her flock evasion techniques to keep them safe, for when humans inevitable come for them.

The Moa Lord holds court in the extinct volcano at the centre of the island, in a caldera called the Cathedral of Tall Grass. The approach to her nesting site is a Bone Gallery which displays remains of every known moa species, lovingly arranged into an ossuary to remind all who view them of the wickedness of hunters.

Te Kura appears every morning for a dawn sprint around her island realm, her form becoming increasingly bird-like as her speed increases, until at maximum velocity she appears as a feathered blur with glowing amber eyes and earth-shaking footfalls that they say can be heard across the entire atoll

Principal Nonplayer Characters: A former enemy of the Moa Lord turned ally, Pouākai (giant eagle [he/him] / N) is an ancient an enormous eagle. It’s not clear whether he is a roc, a kaiju, or some kind of immense eagle lord. Pouākai once hunted moa, but since he too was eliminated by human activity, they now maintain an uneasy alliance based on shared victimhood, though old predator-prey instincts still surface during tense times. Pouākai dwells in the highest reaches of the volcano on the Moa Lord’s Atoll.
