Ediacarian Realms

The Ammonite Lord

The Inner Sea

Location: Pangaea / Ediacarian Realms

HEARSAY: The Ediacarian Realms make up one of Pangaea’s oldest oceans, a vast expanse of primeval water stretching far beyond the supercontinent. Tales from incautious planewalkers tell of seabed tunnels which plung into pelagic depths that connect not only to the oceans of the Beastlands but even as far as the Elemental Plane of Water itself. Here dwell ancient sea creatures from cosmic origins—seareavers from Ortho, hammerclaws, and the horrific chuuls, alongside native prehistoric denizens like ammonites, ichthyosaurs, and trilobites. There’s whisper too, that vile aboleths from Elemental Water have found the secret paths into these dark waters, and claimed dominion deep beneath the waves. Many islands scatter the coasts—among them the Moa Lord’s Atoll.

DESCRIPTION: The Ediacarian Realms open up into a vast ocean with greenish-blue shallows near the coast, that darken to deep black in their endless central waters. Dense shoals of ancient sea life glide beneath the surface—ammonite shells with their tight geometric spirals, and ichthyosaurs cutting efficient paths through ocean swells. Strange plants, neither quite animal nor flora, pulse with precambrian life on the seafloor, and reef-like structures or coral teem with strange and colourful life. The surface is broken by sparse islands, atolls and lagoons. The air here is heavy with salt, and the sun beats down on the sands, yellow and still young.

SPECIAL FEATURES: The Ammonite Lord reigns over the Ediacarian Realms, dominating other species by her sheer age and presence. While she doesn’t claim the sea as her own divine realm, all the other lords of Pangaea respect her ancient wisdom. Patient and grand, she embodies the slow passage of time. The Moa Lord, custodian of all flightless birds, prowls the island chains that dot this realm, fiercely protective and quick to explode with her fiery temper when encountering humans or their likenesses. And the Ichthyosaurus Lord lurks in the endless black waters, an impatient apex hunter whose sharp teeth and long jaws threaten even ammonites.

There may be a miscommunication on my part, when I wrote in the seareavers, chuuls, and hammerclaws I was sure I had written something along the lines of “the Ediacarian sea has the pre-experimentation forms”. According to 5e the chuuls didn’t always look like that, they were experimented on, same with seareavers, they’re from the planewalker site’s Ortho Project, and I don’t remember where I got the hammerclaws from, I might have made them up on the spot. Either way, I thought it would be interesting to have a pre-experimentation forms of these creatures
