Wihsaak Sahkil

The Screeching Symphony (CR 6); entomophobia — fear of insects
Home Planes: Ethereal / Xibalba; Nether
Alignment: Neutral Evil
The abominable wihsaak [wih-ZAK] feasts upon the deep-seated revulsion that many cutters have for the creeping, the crawling, and the infesting. They’re weaponised this fear of insects into a form of torment so horrid that it’s almost artistic. They are masters of persistent buzzing and fluttering sounds in the dark, of the of-so-gentle touch of scratchy wings on the neck, of the crawling sensation on the skin, and the skittering shapes that move just beyond the edge of your vision.
The wihsaak itself appears as a twisted joke—a humanoid insect with long gangly limbs that split halfway down into altogether too many claws. Their wings can create whining, buzzing drone that can confuse their victims. But it’s what passes for their head that is most disturbing, for rather than having a face, an entire cockroach replaces their brain-box. Its large composite eyes reflect a thousand distorted images of their terrified prey. A wihsaak loves nothing more than using its unsettling form to spark terror and revulsion.
These sahkil feed on entomophobia—the fear of insects. They can vomit up a swarm of insects to cause chaos and confusion, then slice through flesh and bone as if it were butter. The combination of the fear many sods have about being overwhelmed by hordes of buzzing insects covering every surface and too numerous to guard against, coupled with the very real danger from their own claws, creates a delicious feast of fear the wihsaak cannot resist.

Other Sources: Jon Winter-Holt. Canonwatch: The sahkil are a fabulously horrid type of fiend from Pathfinder lore, who make a great addition to the Ethereal Plane and Planescape lore generally. The Creature Codex has done an awesome job of expanding the number of sahkil massively too, and I’ve included all their creations here. Organising the sahkil into three sub-types based on their hunting style was my idea, because the list was unwieldy and their names are (deliberately) hard to remember, and this splits them up into bite-sized chunks.
