The ink-black sphere of a xob-yip

DESCRIPTION: The xob-yip appears as a perfect, swirling sphere of abyssal blackness, surrounded by a corona of twisted energy that warps the very fabric of reality. It emits no light except for the eerie distortion that ripples outwards from its surface, drawing att eyes to its unsettling core. The area around a xob-yip feels unnervingly heavy, as if weighed down by immense unseen forces. The sphere emits a low, subtle hum that causes the bones of nearby creatures to rumble, and objects nearby drift slowly towards it, pulled inexorably by a force no eye can see.

PREFERRED HABITAT: Xob-yip are extraordinarily rare, and are fortunately mostly found in the Quasi-Elemental Plane of Vacuum, or the far reaches of Wildspace that planewalkers called the Dark Tapestry. Many of them have been banished there, due to their extreme destructive potential. Xob-yip create and thrive in zones where gravity and planar boundaries are mutable or unstable—floating in voids where subjective gravity suddenly shifts, where planar horizons curve unpredictably, or unstable portals and wormholes flicker in and out of existence. On rare occasions, they approach the edges of other Inner Planes, especially in regions where entropes have ripped through planar boundaries. They also thrive in the Churn of Elemental Chaos.

PHILOSOPHY / SOCIETY: The xob-yip embodies the primal, relentless pull of gravitation—an existential force that defies all attempts at stasis or control, except by the most powerful of magics. Their purpose seems to be one of unmaking; of drawing all matter and energy inward without pause or mercy. Xob-yip do not form societies but exists in an isolated, almost monastic state of singularity, utterly focused on their unquenchable gravitational hunger. To cutters who understand cosmic cycles and reincarnation, the xob-yip represents a sinister apocalyptic force, for chant goes that nothing that is absorbed by a xob-yip is ever seen again.

ECOLOGY: The xob-yip feeds by drawing matter, energy, and even magic toward its unseen core, unmaking and crushing all that crosses its path. It exerts an immense gravitational well that bends light, space and even time locally, diverting projectile attacks and pulling foes into crushing proximity. Fortunately, they reproduce rarely and mysteriously, likely through mitotic splitting in extreme cosmic cataclysms or planar realignment events. They are otherwise solitary forces of nature, disturbing the cosmic balance with every movement, and leaving chaotic gravitational scars on the cosmos.

COMBAT: In combat, a xob-yip will use its Singularity Grab ability to pull opponents into its orbit, hoping they will touch its deadly Event Horizon. Creatures which resist are attacked with a Gravitational Crush Strike. A xob-yip is virtually immune to all kinds of physical and magical attacks because it is able to simply absorb their energy. Its only weaknesses are magics which affect gravity itself, and overloading its ability to consume matter. If a xob-yip can be satiated in this way, it can paralyse the energon and even render it vulnerable to physical attacks.
