On moonlit islands adrift in the endless dreamseas of Arborea, the uinuja (win-OO-ja) eladrin tend to the delicate task of shepherding mortal sleepers through the fathomless depths. At a regal nine feet, they tower over most mortals: uinuja take the form of otherworldly women with luminous, deep purple-black skin, a cascade of midnight-blue hair, and four enigmatic eyes—two above, two below—that shimmer with patient, distant wisdom. They wear their moods on their diaphanous wings—they become softly iridescent when joy stirs their hearts, and fold into tranquil blue or somber gray when sorrow weighs upon them.
The uinuja dwell together in a collective mindscape—a refuge under a full moon where stone spires coil upwards and cocoons of midnight silk sway in the starlit breeze. While they are there, their physical bodies lie still, tucked away somewhere safely in Arborea, sunk in a slumber so deep they might seem dead to a mortal’s eyes. From their mindscape though, the uinuja are able to step into the Dimension of Dreams with a mere thought. You see, dreamwalking is their passion—and their duty. These eladrin are bound by an oath to the goddess Desna to watch over the dreams of sleeping mortals, especially the worshippers of Lady Luck herself. Their mere presence is enough to scare off most phantasmal predators, but should it come to a fight, and uinuja makes a fierce opponent.
Their greatest joy is in stories, especially those woven from the distant lands and shining planets they usually only glimpse in the dreams of sleepers. Tales of the Prime Material Plane—the movement of its stars, the brilliant strangeness of mortal ambition—are precious curiosities to these dreamwardens, who wander the sleeping realms that many mortals visit, but few ever remember.
