Nindoru

A sojiruh, or shrieking nindoru

Cyclebreakers (CR 2–13) chaotic evil fiends who prey on reincarnated souls

Home Plane: Carceri, but most commonly encountered on the Prime

Nindoru are an eerie, accursed race of fiends that embody the corruption of the natural cycle of reincarnation. They are primarily encountered on the Prime Material where they prey upon souls that have already lived many lives, when they are in their most vulnerable forms. The nindorus’ grotesque appearances typically feature elongated or dislocated limbs, pallid or rotting flesh, which is sometimes replaced by disturbing inanimate objects like flickering lanterns or wicker cages. Blood-red butterflies emerge from their bodies—symbols of their shattered souls. These foul creatures often travel in nomadic bands called ninsats, haunting places where the River of Souls becomes a mere trickle. They often clash with high-ups of reincarnation traditions and philosophies, especially the Tian Xia doctrine of Sangpotshi—which nindoru directly oppose by severing souls from their destined cycles. Their diet consists of these stolen souls, particularly those rich with memories of past lives. The nindoru shred such spirits metaphysically to disrupt future rebirths, which makes the fiends profoundly feared among reincarnation cults, samsaran and Sangpotshi practitioners alike.

Nindoru are born from souls that have consciously rejected reincarnation, which marks them as metaphysical rebels against Destiny herself. Their powers are diverse and weird, include the ability to manifest false living bodies or corpses as disguises, cause forgetfulness or false memories, infect silver, bite shadows, steal screams. Their most dangerous ability however is their soul-shredding attack that damages the essence of their victims upon death.

Some nindoru stalk the lonely parts of the Underlands, picking off souls that attract their attention. However, these locations are typically well-defended by psychopomps, which makes the Prime the most fruitful hunting ground for nindoru by far.
