The Lord of the Noble Bond, the Desired One

NG lesser power (yazata) of healing, friendship, marriage, community, purification, the end of disease (He/Him)

Pantheon: Persian Yazad

Realm: Elysium / Amoria / the Oath of Kinship

Airyaman (ay-ree-AH-man) tends to manifest as a radiant presence rather than a being of flesh. When he chooses to make himself visible to mortal eyes, he appears as a tall, broad-shouldered man of middling years, with a sun-darkened complexion and the calm bearing of a trustworthy healer. His beard is short, black and neatly styled. His white robes are crisp and clean, and where he walks, the air smells of cedar smoke. He wears only a simple white turban, and from his belt dangle dozens of bottles, vials and elixirs. Airyaman always has exactly the potion he needs as his fingertips. His eyes are the grey-gold of dawn, and looking into them is said to ease pain the way a cool hand on the forehead eases a fever.

Airyaman governs the healing of the body, and the healing of the bond—that is, the ties of friendship, covenants, and marriages that hold communities together. He is the chief healer among all the Yazad, and was emanated specifically to counter the 99,999 diseases that Angra Mainyu unleashed upon the world. Chant goes that the mantra he invented, the Airyaman Ishya, when spoken truly by a righteous person, can cure any one of those afflictions. He is present at every wedding so witness the bond being sealed between the two families.

Airyaman is warm where other yazatas are austere or wrathful, intimate where they are cosmic. He’s the friend you’d always try to sit next to at the wedding feast, the quiet healer who will stay at your bedside through the night, and the one who speaks the first words of reconciliation to mend a broken alliance. His strength is the slow, inexorable power of comfort and restoration. He does not strike enemies down, but melts their enmity, the way warmth melts ice. He is deeply devoted to Ahura Mazda’s vision of a perfected multiverse, and he works with patience and genuine love toward it.

His realm in Elysium is called the Oath of Kinship and is a hall constructed from plain, warm stone and great cedar beams. The great doors are always open, and all visitors are welcomed, no matter their race or religion. Newly arrived petitioners find their wounds neatly closed and their spirits gently lifted.

Edicts: Tend to the sick without judgement, act as a witness and uphold oaths, speak words that heal divisions and communities

Anathema: Withhold healing for personal gain, wrong your spouse, break a sword oath, spread plague or use poison
