The Guardinals of the Yeoman Phratry

Also known as: The Hearts of Elysium

The Yeomen of Elysium are a diverse and vibrant phratry of guardinals, encompassing a wide variety of forms and outlooks—ranging from the devout and musical raninals to the industrious vitulinals, the scholarly ursinals to the playful procyals—but they share a bond as the humble stewards and commoners of Elysium. United by their commitment to fostering harmony, community, and the simple joys of life, the Yeomen embody philosophies of goodness rooted in service and connection rather than glory or conquest. They typically abhor violence and prefer to resolve conflicts through creativity, wisdom, and compassion, yet each possesses an inner reservoir of courage that can be called upon when innocence or beauty is threatened. Whether tending to Elysium’s forests and rivers, swamps and seas, spreading joy through song and storytelling, or guiding mortals toward hope and redemption, the Yeomen remind cutters that goodness is found in everyday acts of kindness and care. Raninal

Who are devout pilgrims of uplifting song

NG; CR 0 ‡

Raninal guardinals, the frog-like agathions of Belierin, are devout celestials who embody a philosophy of goodness rooted in spiritual devotion, adaptability, and the celebration of interconnectedness. With their amphibian forms ranging from vibrant tree-frog hues to the earthy tones of bullfrogs, raninals have wide, expressive eyes that radiate serenity, smooth or warty skin that glistens with holy moisture, and powerful legs that carry them across vast distances on their tireless pilgrimages. They are natural wanderers, traveling across the layers of Elysium and the Upper Planes to visit holy sites, temples, realms of benevolent powers, and natural wonders, seeing these journeys as acts of reverence and a way to deepen their connection to the divine. Raninals believe that goodness is like water—fluid, nurturing, and capable of shaping even the hardest stone over time. Their songs, often performed in resonant choruses, soothe troubled souls and inspiring unity among those who hear them. In guardinal society, they serve as spiritual guides and keepers of sacred traditions, using their journeys to share wisdom and foster connections between mortals and celestials. Though they prefer peace and contemplation, raninals defend sacred places with surprising agility and strength, leaping into battle with powerful kicks or using their sticky tongues to disarm foes. Raninals remind all who meet them that goodness is not static—it is a journey of faith, song, and shared wonder that flows like an eternal river.

Felinal / Silvanshee

Who nurture and nudge witches towards benevolence

NG; CR 1 †

Felinal guardinals, one the smallest and most unobtrusive of the agathions, resemble sleek, catlike humanoids with bright eyes and a distinctive white blaze on their chests. Known as the eyes and ears of the Upper Planes, they roam hills, forests, and plains both there and in the mortal world, blending seamlessly among animals to observe and root out evil influences. Called silvanshee by the Primes (and often mistaken for fey cath shee), these creatures are deeply curious but reclusive, preferring subtlety over confrontation and often working from the shadows to guide mortals toward goodness. Their unique philosophy of goodness revolves around quiet intervention and nurturing potential; they believe that even the smallest acts of kindness or guidance can ripple outward to create profound change. Practitioners of a form of white witchcraft, silvanshees use their innate magic to protect, heal, and shield allies while subtly steering events toward harmony. Though they avoid combat when possible, their ability to melt into mist or call upon celestial powers makes them elusive and resourceful when pressed. Often mistaken for fey or witches in mortal folklore, silvanshees embrace their mysterious reputation as it allows them to work unnoticed. They are known to disguise themselves as cats and serve as familiars to spellcasters they find deserving, usually cutters they think need a gentle nudge towards benevolence. As moral guides and protectors of balance, they embody the idea that goodness is most effective when it is quiet, watchful, and ever-present.

Aequoreal

Who embody the healing power of dreams

NG; CR 2 †

Aequoreal guardinals, the ethereal jellyfish-like agathions of Thalasia, are serene and luminous beings who embody the healing power of dreams and memories. Their delicate forms resemble miniature translucent humanoids with glowing, bioluminescent features, trailing thin, shimmering tentacles that pulse with celestial energy. Despite their fragile appearance, aequoreals possess remarkable resilience, with hollow bodies that absorb blunt force and stinging cells that deliver jolts of electricity and guilt-inducing memories to evil creatures. Their philosophy revolves around the transformative power of hope and shared understanding; they believe that by connecting minds and sharing dreams, they can inspire others to overcome despair and embrace virtue. They can link minds with others, creating a network of shared thoughts and dreams that fosters empathy and unity. They serve as living libraries of Elysium’s collective benevolence, absorbing and preserving the memories and aspirations of mortals and celestials alike.

NG; CR 3 ‡

Caninal guardinals, the dog-like agathions of Elysium, are the embodiment of boundless enthusiasm, loyalty, and unconditional love. Their eagerness to help can sometimes lead to overzealousness, but their genuine desire to bring happiness and security to those around them is infectious. In guardinal society, caninals serve as companions, mediators, and morale-boosters, often acting as the glue that holds celestial communities together. They are particularly adept at sensing emotional distress and use their innate charm and empathy to comfort others or defuse tensions. Though they are not the most practised warriors, caninals will fight fiercely to protect their friends and loved ones, using their agility and teamwork to outmanoeuvre foes. Procyal

Who mix mischief with moral lessons

NG; CR 8 †

The raccoon-like procyal guardinals are whimsical and clever celestials who embody a philosophy of goodness rooted in community and the transformative power of humour and mischief. With gray and black fur, and sharp eyes that radiate intelligence, procyals are natural shapeshifters who can assume the forms of humanoids they’ve previouslyencountered. They use this ability not just for deception but to teach lessons and deliver wisdom in unexpected ways. Procyals believe that cutters thrive best when they work together harmoniously, and their playful pranks and impersonations aim to humble the prideful, uplift the downtrodden, or challenge unjust systems. They’re particularly fond of traveling among mortals on the Prime, where their antics—though sometimes misunderstood—often leave lasting positive impacts. Procyals prefer to undermine evil through cunning rather than confrontation, subtly weakening oppressive forces so that good can rise naturally in their place. Despite their mischievous nature, they are compassionate and generous, ensuring that all have access to food, comfort, and dignity. Procyals remind mortals and celestials alike that goodness need not always be solemn; it can also be playful and creative.

When necessary, their powerful trunks and tusks can deliver devastating blows, though they wield their might with restraint.
