Agnoia Aeon
Who maintain the balance between ignorance and knowledge
LN; CR 14 [PF1e]

Agnoias are towering aeons of fog and shadow, standing sixteen feet tall and weighing 900 pounds. Their enormous forms are a swirling interplay of pale mist and dark shadow, with three clawed feet at their base and three pale arms ending in long, black claws. Despite their vaporous appearance, they are solid and capable of compressing their forms to fit into tight spaces. Agnoias embody the balance between knowledge and ignorance, but in recent times, they have abandoned their role as disseminators of truth, focusing exclusively on fostering ignorance. They view the multiverse’s accumulation of knowledge as dangerously destabilising and work to extinguish enlightenment through acts like sabotaging libraries, isolating scholars, and targeting planewalkers who spread information across worlds.
Philosophically, agnoias now believe that increasing levels of ignorance is essential for maintaining cosmic stability. They have come to see knowledge as a “plague” that disrupts nascent civilisations and exposes secrets better left hidden. This shift in purpose has caused tension with other aeons, who view agnoias as reckless and dangerously unorthodox. Agnoias themselves express frustration that this directive wasn’t adopted earlier when knowledge was easier to control. They have not yet been cast out of the ranks of aeons, but chant is that their extreme actions are beginning to destabilise the Concordance.
Despite their disdain for mortals spreading enlightenment, agnoias hoard vast amounts of knowledge themselves, often acquired during years spent in universities or libraries. However, they refuse to share this information, fearing it could reignite the very cascade of learning they seek to suppress.
Agnoias possess unique abilities that reflect their philosophy. Their aura of ignorance prevents nearby creatures from remembering information, while their forgotten one ability ensures that victims of their feeblemind spell are erased from the memories of non-aeons. They can also instantly discern the weaknesses of any creature they see with their glance of understanding. In combat, agnoias prefer to neutralise intellectual threats by reducing opponents’ intelligence. Their powers can even render books authored by a victim incomprehensible.
For planewalkers encountering an agnoia, preparation is critical. Avoid drawing attention by flaunting knowledge or engaging in obvious activities that spread information across planes. If conflict arises, focus on disrupting the agnoia’s abilities to suppress intellect and memory; spells or tactics that counter feeblemind or restore lost memories can undo much of their damage. Physical combat should be approached cautiously—agnoias are durable and adept at exploiting weaknesses with their keen observational abilities. Diplomacy is rarely effective due to their singleminded and alien mindset, but demonstrating ignorance or disinterest in spreading knowledge may reduce their hostility.
Agnoias represent a stark contrast to forces like the Fraternity of Order or other seekers of universal truths, and the two groups are sworn enemies, particularly since that unfortunate incident in the Courthouse which strangely many cutters can’t even remember happening… there’s a standing bounty available from the Guvners for any blood who can prove they’ve dispatched an agnoia.
