Carthago Delenda Est
This burg on Zenador, the 3rd layer of the Abyss, was forgotten by the rest of the multiverse long ago, and it seems the locals prefer it that way. Carthago was once a mighty-proud city on a prime world whose name doesn’t matter any more. Its rulers reckoned they’d never be defeated in battle because their patron power had blessed them, and picked on neighbouring burgs, pillaging and razing them. After many years of living in fear, three mages of dubious morals from surrounding burgs struck a pact to surprise Carthago and wished to teach it a lesson it would never forget.
In fact, the effects of their spell were more insidious than they’d thought. Moments later mists descended, surrounding the burg and just as quickly cleared, leaving only bare ground behind. Unbeknownst to the primes, the Abyss itself has granted their wish and taken Carthago off their hands for good. The burg was transported deep into Forgotten Lands, to the banks of the Styx itself. As the residents succumbed to the fumes, they forgot their names, their families and everything they knew. Well, not quite everything; the Abyss was kind enough to let them remember the reason they came here, their guilt and shame. And to eat. The Abyss wouldn’t be able to have its fun if all the unlucky sod died too quickly.
So to this day, the burg still exists here, the descendants of the Carthaginians don’t know how long they’ve been here, or even who they are, but they still bear the shame of their ancestors. So much so, in fact, that they never want to face the rest of the planes again. Fact is though, it’s not like anyone else remembers Carthago any more, either…
