Lalaci

He of Motley Repose (planar bralani eladrin empyreal lord [he/him] / CG)

Portfolio: Rainbows, relaxation, self-worth, shade, xenia

Realm: Arborea / Pelion / The Kaleidoscope Oasis

Lalaci is a multi-coloured marvel of the burning sands, patron of weary wanderers and all cutters who just need to carch a moment’s peace. If you’ve ever found cool shade beneath a lone palm after hours wandering the dunes, or seen a rainbow shimmer in the desert heat, you’ve benefited from Lalaci’s grace.

Lalaci is the embodiment of that spectrum of colours which grace the skies when sun and rain manifest together. Especially in the depths of the desert, its a reminder that beauty and hope can blaze even in the harshest places. Rainbows are his sign—a promise of respite. Lalaci teaches that every soul deserves rest, and that inner strength comes from knowing when it’s time to stop and take a breath. He is the welcome shade in hot places, but this isn’t just physical shadow; he’s also a balm for the spirit, that feeling when you remember that you matter as well. In the endless wastes of Pelion, Lalaci is the oasis, a patch of cool beneath a canopy, a gentle hand that shields you from the sun’s ferocity. He’s the guardian of the desert’s sanctuaries, and the fierce protector of those who seek refuge.

Lalaci is quite the vision: his alabaster white skin positively glows in the sun, and his eyes burn with the colours of the horizon at dawn. His wings are iridescent, every feather a shifting rainbow, casting motley shadows that dance across the sands. He dresses in flowing, multi-coloured silks that shimmer as he moves. His presence is always accompanied by the scent of cool water and fresh grass—an impossible promise in the desert, but real enough when he’s nearby.

He’s the embodiment of gentle hospitality and fierce self-respect. Lalaci welcomes all who seek shelter, offering rest without judgment. When he’s in a good mood he can be playful, quick with a soothing word or a sly joke, but be warned, there’s a shard of ice inside him too—cross the line by preying on the vulnerable, and you’ll find the desert’s mercy quickly runs dry for you. His inquisitors, known as the Shadebound, are infamous for ensuring that no one denies hospitality to the weary, and for dealing harshly with berks who abuse the sanctuaries he blesses. The Greeks call this xenia—the concept of offering hospitality to all guests and treating strangers with generosity and respect. Graybeards have suggested that Lalaci may be linked in some way with Zeus, who also champions this. Perhaps Lalaci is the result of one of Zeus’ many flings with nymphs, or perhaps he’s an embodiment of the aspect Zeus Xenios.

Lalaci’s creed is simple: “Rest is a right, not a reward.” He teaches that (contrary to what archons might say) self-worth is not earned by suffering or self-sacrifice, but by embracing your own beauty and dignity. He despises those who hoard comfort or profit from the desperation of others, and his followers are quick to share what little they have. For Lalaci, goodness is found in the oasis shared, the shade offered, and the rainbow seen together after the storm.

Lalaci is the patron of glass blowers (who catch rainbows in sand), illusionists (who paint with light), and desert wanderers. He’s the only one who’s able to calm the wild Court of Stars for moments of rest and reflection, reminding even the most restless souls that it’s alright to pause sometimes. While some empyreal lords might chase glory, power or adventure, Lalaci is the champion of the in-between, the quiet, and the colourful.

Shrines to Lalaci are always oases—real or metaphorical—festooned with suncatchers, coloured glass, and soft mats for reclining. His clergy patrol these sanctuaries and offer guidance, comfort, and defense.

The Kaleidoscope Oasis

Planewalkers of Pelion tell of stumbling into a much-needed patch of shade, only to find Lalaci himself reclining beneath a colourful palm, wings spread wide, inviting them to share a story and a cup of cool water. Lalaci’s realm is called the Kaleidoscope Oasis. It’s a haven of cool pools, shaded groves, and endless rainbows refracted through a thousand suncatcher charms. The air here is always fresh, the water always sweet, and every soul is welcome. It’s a place of rest, but also of renewal: here, you remember your worth, and leave with the strength to face the desert (or life) once more. Next time you find yourself lost and weary, look for the motley shade—with luck, Lalaci will be waiting, ready to remind you that you are worthy of rest.

May your shade be motley, and your rest well-earned
